Saying No

Okay so a conversation in a discord server inspired me to make this.

You guys can say no to things. You do not always have to "Yes And" everything that comes to you.

Like. Usually when we talk about rping, we talk about saying yes and. continuing on the scene, not shutting interaction down. We're pretty lucky with how this rp stuff works where in character denying and saying no CAN work a lot better than in standard improv without fully stopping the scene and kinda shutting it down, but that's not what I'm talking about.

I've seen a lot of people who kinda. Accidentally start god modding or kinda burst their way into plotlines without asking and like. This is public rp! Anyone can join! But there is a certain degree where you gotta stop first and ask or just not say it.

But sometimes people do not think first and just do. Maybe sending a magic anon that solves all of your oc's problems. Maybe they have dimension hopping powers and are like "Don't worry! I've come to your reality and I can help you get away from your problems instantly!", maybe your character really wants a mega stone and you have plans to have a whole thing about them working to get this mega stone and learning to mega evolving their partner and then someone mystery gifts or pelipper mails the item to you immediatly.

You don't have to "Yes, and" that. You can just say "No, you didn't do that". You are allowed to say no when someone crosses your boundaries and is affecting your plot.

Is someone trying to involve you in their plot without asking? "That is not happening in my character's universe" Is someone trying to say they're just there at a crucial event with your character when they never asked? "Your character is not able to be there. Please delete that post".

Yes And only goes so far. There is a time and a place where you will need to say No, and that is just as important to RP as going with the flow! If someone's fucking with your plot, its your job to tell them to stop. People can get involved, sure, but sometimes people try and get way more involved than what you're comfortable and its okay to tell them to back off.

I've also seen people feel that stuff like Muse Mixup Madness or Pelipper Mail are mandatory things they HAVE to do? You don't! You don't need to do anything even if others are! So I guess this is your reminder that you can ignore pelipper mail and magic anons and just asks in general that you dont like! you can turn pelipper mail and magic anons off completely! you can ignore peoples replies to your posts if they fuck with what you have going on. you can tell people they did not do things that would fuck with your characters and story. you can just not do muse mixup madness when it rolls around. you can just not do follower special events. you don't have to participate in anything you dont want, and you dont have to allow people to do whatever even if it makes you uncomfortable.

Other people can do what they want, but you have a right to say no when they try to involve you.

Who thought it was a good idea to go to a trial chamber during an increasingly hostile mob swap wild card. Why. Of course Scar dies to a vex after the evoker is taken care of.

I guess yellows are basically reds now since there aren’t any???? WAIT WHEN DID MARTYN KILL SKIZZ???? WHY???

How are these Minecraft professionals dying to mobs. This is EASIER than the snails and the food swap wild card. They have so much gear from TriviaBot by now. How.

Scar: "Etho, do you want a TNT mine cart?" Etho, jumping in excitement, shaking with glee, tail wagging and dancing from paw to paw: "yes yes!"

They’ve just given up on Skizz. He’s that loser son meme.

If Etho survives Grian, I really hope that he builds him a grave next to Skizz and Mumbo’s and gives another terrible speech just to complete the set.

Of course Etho goes and plays with the omnidirectional TNT tower launcher. Going back to his roots. That tower is going to cause more deaths I bet. HE LITERALLY TRIES TO ASSASSINATE GRIAN TWCE IT WAS SO SMOOTH.

The way Bdubs IMMEDIATELY ruins his unsolicited compliment from Etho by calling himself a Tuff Boy.

The lost opportunity from Bdubs and Etho to get a better horse from the wild card.

Gem’s so traumatized from Secret Life LOL. Being sacrificed to isn’t just glory and fun either. She and Joel are truly on a whole ‘nother genre. She’s just wistfully sighing at all the craziness that she’s not allowed to do as a green.

Joel about to pull a Ren and drop a life just to take revenge on Pearl (hypothetically.) He and Gem are so insane in their own ways.

She literally gave Impulse the saddle for the camel that he and Pearl come riding in later on to make her jealous… that backfired on them so hard LOL. And she’s the first one to think and get wolf armor instead of Pearl.

Who would have thought Gem would be more insane than Pearl in a Life Series, especially when she’s green and Pearl’s red/yellow? Pearl really rolled up on a murder camel with her new bae trying to make Gem jealous and Gem’s just playing hard to get and KILLING AT IT!!!! Gem expertly turns every verbal trap Pearl sets up back onto her and when Pearl tries to have the final word about going back to Impulse “who actually treats me right” Gem goads her back with the taunting “You scared?” bomb. And so Gem gets the final word in “You’re still not honorable.” (Incredibly biased / unreliable narrator of her) and saunters away, cutting Pearl off at her plaintive “Gem?” Absolutely fantastic how much more toxic and seemingly reasonable but actually unfair Gem is being. Everything has to go Gem’s way; if it’s not, she tries to reconstruct the situation to have it on her terms. And if she can’t, if Pearl points out the illogic, she just changes subject or moves the goalpost so that she’s in the right. Yanking on Pearl’s chain and playing hot and cold. MARVELOUS EDITING AND RPING. IM IN AWE.

Classic Shiny Duo Pearl: "-because Impulse actually treats me right." Gem, in the most provoking tone: "What? You don’t want to 1v1 me? You scared?" I went OOOOOOOOOH SNAP at that. And to call PEARL dishonorable is SUCH a slap in the face of what her Life Series character is all about. Absolutely stellar yandere behavior. Gem’s bringing up past seasons and Hermitcraft; she’s really playing into her Watcher / Void lore. I thought this was it, I didn’t realize there would be MORE INSANE INTERACTIONS. I AM IN A FEVER DREAM. I AM GLUED TO MY SCREEN.

Impulse: "...that was all I had." Joel: "He tried to creeper egg you, I saw it." Gem: "Wimp."

The Skizz shade that’s proven right within the session.

Literally speaks Pearl and Impulse’s shenanigans into existence. Her narrative sense is impeccable. BACK ON THE 2V1 BS AGAIN LOOOOOOOL. An excellent play by Gem, basically driving a wedge between Pearl and Impulse and isolating her from the player she’s trying to get to win Wild Life. Even spreading the “you don’t need Impulse you’re capable by yourself” message to Pearl’s allies. SHE TOOK 0 DAMAGE AHAHAHAH. Creeper eggs and webs??? Soooooo last episode. Reminding BigB of his propaganda agreement and PEARL IS THE FIRST ONE HE TELLS IT TO RIGHT THEN AND THERE. AMAZING COINCIDENCE. Pearl’s indignant yelp in the background! Truly the universe is just going Gem’s way.

I'm going to pass away from all this. ANT IN YOUR PANTS NAMED PEARL?!?!? GEM!!!! Gem: “You’re going to blow yourself up…” Double life flashbacks…..

Flaunting her encouragement of Skizz to kill her right in front of Pearl who’s trying to flaunt Murder Camel AGAIN with Tango. “Pearl is… thirsty!” WHY YOU GOTTA SAY IT LIKE THAT??? Making Pearl confirm that the kill was Skizz… devious. Truly she makes sure the world goes according to plan. Gem is the only person who’s happy to die FINALLY.

Ren: Are there any traps? Because I just watched two people die to traps. *narrowly avoids being blown up by Etho and Gem* THE COMEDIC IRONIC TIMING. THIS SERIES KEEPS ON DELIVERING.

Everyone’s panicking about the mob swap and Gem’s just crafting for her barn.

Gem: "[Grian]’s already having a bad day; just make it worse." LOL AND GRIAN IMMEDIATELY JOINS THE FAMILY AND REFUSES TO TAKE ANY BLAME FOR THE DEATH TOWER HAHAHAAH. The trial chamber banger music as he shows them the death tower is pure dissonant vibes but it weirdly does fit with Gem’s genre this series.

Universe goes perfectly for Gem in the same way that it hinders Pearl at every step. Billy got turned into a donkey; there goes all their cows, she can’t set up a dog army as easily as before.

The way she immediately abandons Impulse to chase after Gem. And this is really evident in Pearl’s POV but she’s always talking to Gem’s back; Gem doesn’t give her the decency for a face to face conversation. PEARL CUT OUT THE “WHAT YOU SCARED?” LINE LOOOOOL. And then the wild card kills the therapy camel and Gem just walks away HAHAHA. Pretty sure those creepers did more damage to her and Impulse than to Gem. Pearl’s trying so hard to kill Gem but she’s praising and admiring how smart and great and beautiful she is all the time, even in other POVs. To Gem’s face even. Simply can’t help herself. Completely unnecessary, might I add. Gem’s literally giving her the same advice she gives to all the incompetent assassins HAHA.

She’s goes "puppy!!! :D" And it instantly DIES IN FRONT OF HER HAHAHA.

Basically flaunting her new murder buddy Tango; the one who killed Joel multiple times LOL. While Gem deliberately encourages Skizz right in front of them. The way that Tango and Pearl both groan in disgust at that. And surprisingly I think Tango’s windcharge was the best attempt so far. Back to the 2v1 thing HAHA. And Pearl has to hear Skizz’s success right as it happens.

She got the totem!!!! Truly the Queen of Decked Out 2.

She’s so sad about the murder camel AHHAH. And of course the raid fails because the universe just likes to see Pearl suffer.

Omg she gave the totem to Impulse. PEARL!!!!

Pearl and Impulse embarked on a trapping adventure and immediately u-turned bravely when the mob swap happened LOL.

Pearl still on her pathetic wet puppy arc. Cannot get a single trap to work; it injures her and her allies instead.

Etho, Grian, and Pearl being the “cheaters” of this season was NOT what I expected.

Of course Grian puts the name Big and Bloop; he's still haunted by Mumbo. Scar really hanging around Grian a lot this episode

The sheer disbelief at Etho naming the warden and Etho playing this wildcard right. Grian leaves Skizz alone for one second and he's attacking wardens and dying to BigB’s creeper web and walking in the sky on a one-block bridge.

Bloop is the PERFECT name for an iron golem in remembrance of Mumbo.

OF COURSE THERE WAS GOING TO BE AN EVOKER AND VEXES WHAT DID YOU THINK WAS GOING TO HAPPEN IN THE TRIAL CHAMBER!!?!?

Why did Jimmy fall for the bait. It didn’t take long did it.

0 grief for Skizz and instantly moving on to the nearest friendly. During the cheery jingley music as well. Literally said Skizz Issue!!!

Oh the illusioner! That’s a rare one. Yep, called the stuck in the ender pearl stasis chamber issue last episode.

The way Jimmy nearly swore at BigB. And how Scar casually offers to go red to match his teammates. Even did Grian’s "uh-oh! spaghettio!" phrase.

Jimmy just got two-shotted by Bloop that was on his leash. His outrage at Skizz’s carelessness is matched by everyone else on the server.

Lizzie’s “Do you hear what I hear?” sounds like a professional voice acting line in a horror genre omg.

The group delight in Skizz's final death!

Bdubs: "You don’t even have a bow…. Alright then go play Minecraft." He has the same tone of voice, matter-of-factly stating how Tango broke the rules by windcharging Skizz, as when he did to Scar in Limited Life when he TNT minecarted AFK Grian and Cleo.

Tango must still be riding the redemption of the previous episode because he’s noticing things before anyone else; figured out the mechanic and how to stay safe from early on; experienced the butt scooting murder buddy camel; didn’t get caught in any of the 5 traps (especially Lizzie’s), and spectacularly won his beef with Skizz. He was basically involved with all the major things and had a front row seat of the funny events this episode (Skizz and Martyn). All because today is his turn to be leader. Tango Villain Arc was what he needed all along.

Of course Tango fell into the obvious hole in the bridge.

Of course it was Tango windcharging Skizz off. Absolutely no one was surprised. Foretold and lampshaded. Not even a dramatic foreshadowing - it’s just a simple logical conclusion. Twice now Tango windcharged that same location and Grian’s teammate died. Twice now that Tango killed Skizz against the rules by making him fall to his death when he shouldn’t be so high in the first place. Twice now that Skizz died from someone windcharging him AT THE EXACT SAME LOCATION. Truly how many times must we teach you this lesson old man.

Martyn's windcharge on Skizz with 100% hilarity and 0 regrets LOL. HE JUST WALKED INTO LIZZIE TRAP FULLY AWARE AND EXPLODED TO BITS. ETHO SAID THE “I WISH HE WAS BETTER AT THE GAME” AT THE FUNERAL LOL

THE TIMING OF MARTYN FALLING FOR LIZZIE’S TRAP!!

BIGB GOING FULL REVENGE ON SKIZZ WITH THE SAME TRICK AT THE SAME PLACE LOOOOL. AND THEN HE DIES TO WILDCARD BECAUSE HIS ARMOR IS OFF TOO LOOOOOL. THE KARMA. He was SO RIGHT to be cautious during the mob swap - the moment he relaxes a vindicator spawns in and just executes him immediately. Incredible irony.

Even Skizz knew it was a bad idea bad he kept on doing it. His bad luck really does rub off on everyone else. Wait Martyn got Skizz to red with a windcharge? And Skizz didn’t learn his lesson??? Bruh. And of course he attacked the warden and immediately regretted it.

It's been some time after Kisho brought back the little Possom like Raccoon curse spirit to the school. However, it seems things have gotten a bit bad after he did. What chaos has this little curse brought? read to find out.

"So Taz, how have you been so far? We heard your still growing stronger by the day. We all still do miss you but we hope your well." Taz Hellion was speaking to her leader from the DBT: Van Ink the dragon. She's been doing the daily check up today seeing her in her dorm room.

"Hi Ink and I miss you too. I've been alright and still getting stronger by the day. Though, we are just having another day off though due to some things." she laughed a bit while sitting on her bed to look at the screen.

"Ah, I see. Well, knowing how training has been I believe that. Though, has anything new happened with you and the others?" she asked as Taz thinks about it.

"Hmmmm, not really. Though, some things have happened." Taz explains before she looks seeing a baby quoll near by rolling on it's back. The same one that Taz summoned when she became a toddler. However, their was another curse that was curled up in her lap happily.

"Uhhhhh wait, what is that?" Ink noticed to see the Possum racoon curse. However, she blinks to pet his head to smile.

"Oh this is Charlie. He's a curse that Kisho and Megumi found when on a mission. He tends to be a grumpy pants but he's not too bad." she said while petting him. The baby quoll nuzzles against her hand too as she was petting both of them.

"Wait..Kisho and Megumi found him? Though, he don't seem like a grumpy pants.."

"Trust me, he is. He tends to be a trouble maker." Taz said with a sweatdrop. But maybe she can explain.

"So yeah! I figured if we bring him back we can teach him now to be nice!" Kisho was speaking to the others even the Principle Yaga who was seeing both Megumi and Yuji scratched up all over while Megumi was doing his best not to be angry.

"Uh huh........and your telling me this how? I thought the curse was with them during the time-"

"Lets just say we found it during the time we were shopping for Taz and Yuji. But Kisho figure it was a good idea to go and bring it back." he explains to see Yaga sigh.

"......"

"Please Mister Yaga. I'm sure he can be nice..." Kisho said only to see the curse hiss and hops on his face scratching his face again. Kisho screams in pain trying to stop it.

"WILL YOU STOP SCRATCHING MY FACE!? OW THAT HURTS! STOP IT!"

"........" Nanami, Yaga, and Gojo blinks to hear this but they were unsure on how this curse will be good. With a sigh, he looks to him.

"Fine. I guess you can prove it. You boys will just try to make our 'guest' welcome. Just....keep it out of trouble." he said.

"R..right.." Megumi said seeing Kisho rolling on the ground trying to get the curse off his now scratched up face.

"Ow..."

"Oh wow. So that curse named Charlie was like that?" Ink asked.

"Yeah but he don't mean to. Though, he seems to be friendly with the girls instead of the guys." Taz said still petting his head seeing the baby quoll now sleeping in her lap too.

"Charlie was either very scared when being found or maybe he was just unsure on what to do."she said but Taz keeps holding both curses to her.

As soon as Kisho and Megumi was given the order to keep a eye on the curse. He already caused some chaos. From the first day, he's been always biting and clawing at the boys who would take turns to it but it was after Taz and Yuji were back to normal. At first, Taz was shocked hearing this even Yuji was too when hearing this. But more when seeing the little curse.

"Why are you two so scratched up?" Nobara said but Kisho sighed.

"You don't want to know-Ow!"

"Sorry!" Miko said trying to put some medicine on the scratches of his face while holding a bottle, a cotton ball with tweezers.

"Well, even though you guys look like a mess..." Nobara sighed. "Though, has the little guy gotten used to his new home?" she asked.

"..Eh...in a way.." Kisho said remembering it shredding his clothes, trying to bit Eito. Their was times it sneaks off causing problems like attacking Megumi while he sleeps or jumpscaring. To Yuji being bitten and him scratching at his face. All Sukuna would do is laugh.

"Well you guys have got to try being more nice to it or...him?" she said.

"Well, it's more like a monster if that's the right word!" Megumi said annoyed with this curse hearing it hiss at him but he saw it glare at him before seeing Megumi holding him.

"Besides, we wouldn't have to worry about him if he stops biting me and the guys." he said poking his nose seeing veins showing till it chomps down on his hand. "OW! YOU FUCKING LITTLE-"

He sees him jump from his hands right into Taz's arms as she blinks to hold it. He hisses angry at Megumi, Kisho, and Yuji but nuzzles happily against Taz.

"Uhhhhhh....he seems to like you...." Miko said to Taz.

"HA!?!? THAT'S NOT FAIR!" Kisho said.

'Wow, I can't believe you brats are so scared of a little thing. You call yourselves sorcerers?!' Kinie said laughing at the boys even if they look to her trying to not say anything.

"You don't get it Kinie that THING hates us!" Yuji said.

'Yeah, no kidding!' she said bursting out laughing.

"I..I don't know how he likes me. I just met him.....but he does look cute." she said seeing him now trying to be cute before it looks to Nobara wagging it's tail.

"Huh, she's got a point. He looks more like a little kid than most." she even reaches to scratch it's head hearing a happy trill from it's throat. It even wraps the tail around her wrist hoping for more.

"You...that fucking little-"

"Easy Megumi, easy." Kisho said nervous seeing him wanting to destroy that little beast.

"How can I!? Why did you think bringing him back was a good idea!?" he said grabbing Kisho by the shirt who yelps.

"I thought he would be added as a new member like Wilson!" he said in a panic.

"SERIOUSLY!?" He said only to see the cruse being petted by Nobara, Taz, and Yuria. Miko was just done with fixing Kisho up before seeing the curse hop and lands in her arms. She squeaked seeing him nuzzling her cheek.

"H..hello there little guy.." she said being carefully while even Eito, Wilson, and Anaconda was curious he only keeps being happy with the females but he seems to be alright with them too.

'Oh this little jerk!' Kisho thought only for him to still be admired by the girls. He even walks over to glare at it. "How come your so nice with them and not us!? Why be a little brat!" he said only for the curse to hiss and chomp down on his hand again.

Kisho twitched only to yelp out in pain from the bite as he rolls on the ground from the pain. Megumi and Yuji sweatdrops even seeing Eito looking at him with a deadpan expression.

"Now now, I'm sure he didn't mean it.." Yuria said.

"Oh he did! I'll get you for that!" Kisho said with tears in his eyes even if the curse hisses at him but goes to nuzzling Taz happily calm again.

"I..I think we should give him a...a name right?" Miko asked seeing the girls agree.

"Hmmmm..true. So...what should we name him?" Nobara asked.

"....How about Ross?" Yuria said seeing the curse shaking his head.

"Mark?" Nobara said seeing him shake his head.

"..St...steve?" Miko said seeing him shake his head. Taz thinks a little but she blinks to look.

"How about Charlie? Is that okay?" she asked to see him blink but nod as he goes to hop in Taz's arms to lick her cheek. She blinks holding him.

"So Charlie hmm? Alright then, we'll call you Charlie!" she said as the girls were happy. However, the boys were shocked seeing this. That sneaky little punk got the girls to love him! However, when doing so, he shows a snickering grin from the girls to the guys who was seething right now.

"Ohhhh now I get it. Wow, he must cause a lot of trouble around don't he?" Ink asked.

"Hmmm, In a way but he's not bad. He's just a little curse. It's just like Wilson when he was taken out due to be cursed. So I think Charlie will be fine. The other shikigami get along with him. I don't know why he don't get along with big brother and the others though." she mutters wondering about it.

"Well, I'm sure in the future they will get along. I do want them to be happy even with this little guy. Mr. Yaga already made a cute plush for him too so it means he's part of the family now!" she smiled looking at the two sleeping shikigami.

"Speaking of them, where are the guys?" Ink asked.

"Ehhhh they said something about doing some cleaning work around school. I'm sure they will be done before lunch later." she said. This made Ink blink wondering what happened but she gets the feeling it involved Charlie.

Meanwhile with them, they had to clean the classroom due to Charlie's rage so they were cleaning it up before Megumi was brushing something away.

"You know, maybe it was a bad idea to bring him here.." Kisho said only to get bonked on the head hard by Megumi leaving a swollen lump. "OW!"

"YOU THINK!?" he shouted shaking his fist. "I TOLD YOU WE SHOULD HAVE EXORCIST THE CURSE BUT NOW BECAUSE OF THIS HE'S STUCK WITH US!" Megumi said.

"I SAID I WAS SORRY! I DIDN'T KNOW! I THOUGHT HE WOULD BE NICE LATER IN THE FUTURE BUT WE WILL HAVE TO KEEP TRYING WON'T WE?!" he said only for Megumi's eye to twtich.

"He's right. Maybe we just got off on the wrong foot. I'm sure he will be nice....if we try." Yuji said. Moments later, Yuji and Kisho were running out of the classroom with bunnies chasing them.

"COME ON MEGUMI!! WE WERE JUST SAYING!" Yuji said scared as he ran.

"YEAH, THAT'S NOT FAIR!!"

"GET YOUR ASSES BACK HERE!!" He shouted chasing them as Kisho and Yuji runs off screaming for their lives. However, they will be sure to finish up the cleaning and maybe think of a way to get better with knowing Charlie. Maybe.

I've been roleplaying for a good long while now and I'm starting to see some issues trending lately. So here is a guide/tips from me, a spontaneous RPer, who has run into a lot of younger or newer RPers without a lot of guidance. Let me have the honor of trying to help. Or at least let me share what I want some people to know.

i) So you go to a venue. The safest way to start RPing with literally anyone in particular is to ask them an opening question. It doesn’t have to be ground-breaking.

Sonny Silvertear: “Hi there! I'm Sonny, what’s your name?” “ Luna Lifebringer: “Hi? My name’s Luna.”

ii) If the stranger doesn’t “yes and” you, move on. People are jerks, and if they judge you, that’s on them. If someone doesn’t respond in fifteen minutes, you’re safe to move on. (People type slow in game, so fifteen minutes feels like the safest number to me. Please work within your comfort zone–it’s a part of creating boundaries and protecting yourself!)

iv) If you’re the stranger sitting around waiting for someone to ask you a question, the polite thing to do is “yes and” them back. Sometimes, this means just saying something that your new roleplay partner can respond to. It doesn’t always have to be a question!

Luna Lifebringer: “Are you new here? I haven’t seen you around.” Sonny Silvertear: “It’s my first time here. Do you come here often?”

Remember: No talk is too small. Small talk can lead to big talk if you continue to “yes and” with your partner. If you take an interest in someone else’s character, the courteous thing is for them to take an interest in yours.

(As an aside, it’s a little narcissistic to wonder why someone took an interest in your character unless they offer the information themselves. If they compliment you, make sure you find something nice and genuine to say back! Most of the time, the safe assumption is that people are just trying to make friends–unless you have good reason to believe otherwise, of course.)

v) “But I play a character who doesn’t talk too much?” Body language is a great way to show emotion for characters who are stoic. If they can’t offer much dialogue, you can help your partner out by sharing your character’s thoughts or assumptions in your prose. It does NOT have to be fancy or complicated.

Luna Lifebringer: “Not really, no.” Luna raised an eyebrow, then turned to her drink. She wasn’t sure why this cheerful stranger was talking to her, but she didn’t mind it. She just didn’t think it made sense to share her prior line of thought–about the adventure she’d just survived, in a dungeon where she pretty much carried the party with the strength of her white magic.

Sonny Silvertear: “You seem to have a lot on your mind. Do you wanna talk about it?”

Luna Lifebringer: “Not really, no.” She smiled weakly at Sonny, but without any malice. She didn’t want him to think she was annoyed. “What about you? Something on your mind?”

Sonny Silvertear: “Not really, no.” He had to laugh. Should he have come up with conversation topics beforehand? He was new at the social thing, which he hadn’t known was part of the adventuring thing until he’d picked up the mantle of sprout.

Luna Lifebringer: Luna Lifebringer laughs, too. “I guess we both came out to enjoy a nice drink.”

Sonny Silvertear: “I really like drinking. But I’m not, like, a drunk!”

vi) “But how do I get out of small talk territory?” This is where you choose to be vulnerable. Contrary to what some people might tell you, it’s alright to share some exposition about your character’s backstory. It just has to seem natural–and the best way to make something seem natural is to find a natural opportunity to share.

Luna Lifebringer: “Well, good. Because I hate drunks, lies and deception. Especially deception.”

Sonny Silvertear: “Anyone who knows a drunk hates drunks.”

Luna Lifebringer: “You, too? I’ll drink to that!”

vii) “But my partner isn’t picking up on my cues.” That happens sometimes. It can happen a lot if your cues aren’t obvious. It can also happen if you run into a lot of people who are either really uninterested, really tired, or just really not perceptive. Those are all not your fault, so you can’t compensate for that. When you find yourself working too hard, it’s okay to drop the RP, either by finding a reason to leave, talking to someone else, or simply ending the conversation.

viii) “What if I’m not getting their cues?” Then it’s perfectly harmless to bring up what you think they’re referring to, or something new entirely, so long as you acknowledge whatever else the person said. Remember that you don’t have to respond to every single line–just what you think is important, either to you or to them. That way, no one feels like they wasted what they wrote.

Sonny Silvertear: “Yeah, me, too. My dad.”

Luna Lifebringer: “That sucks.”

Sonny Silvertear: “Yeah. My dad sucked.”

Luna Lifebringer: “Mine did, too. Is there a rule somewhere that says dads have to suck?”

Sonny Silvertear: “I think that’s part of why everyone hates drunks. Because they make terrible fathers.”

ix) Don’t write more than you need to. An easy way to lose your partner’s attention or try their patience is making them read a small novel, only to find out the last two lines are all they need to read to reply. That doesn’t mean you can’t share lovely details about your characters; it just means you need to choose those details wisely. For example, if there’s something about your character that we can’t see on the model, like freckles under a scar or a third color of hair on their head, bring it up if it seems relevant. Just ask yourself why it’s relevant and why you want your new partner to know about it.

Luna Lifebringer: She laughed. It was bubbly, but there was a sadness hiding amid the bubbles somewhere. “More women need to not sleep with drunk dudes.”

Sonny Silvertear: He nodded once, firmly. His smile reached his eyes, though the light in them was gone. He looked at his hands. Without gloves to hide the scars, it was easy to see how rough they were. “It would save everyone a lot of stress, time and work.”

x) Use the right words. It’s hard to figure out what the right words are, but sometimes, that’s because they’re simple. And sometimes it’s because they’re not. Really, the key is to make sure the word means what you think it means. The thesaurus doesn’t give you words that are exactly interchangeable; it gives you words that can mean the same things, in a general sense, but mean something specific when you look closer.

Old: Luna looked around the bar. She was by herself, but she was waiting for someone, so she didn’t feel like a total loser. She just needed to be patient. She smiled at the bartender and took her drink, then looked around some more for the right seat. (Grade: C)

New: Luna looked around the bar. She felt self-conscious, but reminded herself that she was waiting for someone. When the bartender handed her the drink she ordered, she smiled graciously. Then, she looked for a place to sit. (Grade: B)

Don’t ask me how to get an A, starters are hard. Making yourself look known and available, and giving people an insight to where your character is mentally, is a good start. Frankly, I’d just sit my character somewhere before I made a starter but I wanted to try something new. I don’t think it worked. But the point is, the words are better. They’re more varied and less soulless. But sometimes soulless gets you through the day, so don’t judge yourself too hard.

xi) When writing a character from a specific place, try to use in-game dialogue to influence the depiction of your character’s ethnic background or childhood experiences. There are a lot of NPCs in the game and a lot of MSQ dialogue by people from different places on the Star. So, if you start RPing a character of a different background than yours, the best starting point is the source material. Although the source has its own problems, it’s also the text we share. Identifying the problems in the material is more like the second or third step in character building; but it’s unlikely folks will be angry with you for drawing from the source. However, do try to research the places in game and their real world counterparts to get a sense of where your character should be. It helps add depth and it helps you learn about the world, too! Creating, writing and researching for non-Western characters is its own large topic; this is just a good starting point, in my experience.

xii) In Conclusion: show people you care to know about other people’s characters. Focus on what they need to know about yours in the moment. Artistry can follow once you have the meat down in place. Don’t commit so much to aesthetic that you lose the ability to build relationships with other people. When you take an interest in those around you, the world really opens up. And isn’t that what being an adventurer is all about?

Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I do! I love interacting with readers and also thanking them for taking the time to leave a nice comment. In the past, when I wasn’t yet a writer with my second account, I always got scared to comment if I saw authors didn’t reply, so now I am trying my best to answer! It sometimes takes some time for me to get around to them, but I love responding :D

What's the fic you've written with the angstiest ending?

I do like to write angst from time to time but a completely angsty ending? I guess the ending to Cut open your Heart counts? Carlos didn’t have a good time there.

And maybe the freshly released Drowning (with you, in you) could be read as angsty, but in my mind, the fic is the first step towards a better ending for Pierre and Este! So, I intended it to be a bit ambiguous but hopeful at the same time, might still come across as angsty though. Maybe.

What's the fic you've written with the happiest ending?

That’s really difficult to answer because most of them end quite happy! Probably Eterni Rivali, though. I gave lesbian lestappen their cottagecore retirement + marriage ending.

Do you write crossovers?

Crossovers not really, but I like writing fusions! I don’t like to write “characters from fandom A meeting characters from fandom B”, but I DO like shoving f1 drivers into AUs, and sometimes that AU is based on another type of media (mentioning Eterni Rivali here again, because it’s a Pokemon AU).

Thankfully no! I only ever got really lovely comments, and for that yet another big thank you for everyone <3

Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

I do! I like writing smut that turns into a character study. Smut that says or shows something about the relationship of the characters I’m writing. Smut as a vehicle for characterisation, if you want to say it like that.

Have you ever had a fic translated?

I did! The first chapter of Sweet Kitten has a Russian translation and it makes me so happy that someone would spend so much time and effort on translating my silly stuff.

Technically no. But if you count RPing back in the days for a different fandom that ended up as an almost fully-fledged fic until my RP partner never responded back? Then yes.

Very difficult question. For F1, probably Landoscar. They’re my silly little cats that I can put into SO many situations!!

I have certain word “friends” (which are filler and don’t do anything) that I need to search for every time I’m editing. I also know like two (2!!) rhetorical devices that I tend to overuse.

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

Only if the translation is easily accessible. Like creating footnote links (the links! part is especially important. I don’t like manually scrolling to the bottom) or having that cool AO3 work skin that lets you hover over a word with your mouse and it shows the translation.

What was the first fandom you wrote for?

I’ve been creating OCs and writing little self-insert things for Pokemon since forever. But properly writing? Fire Emblem Fates, if you count RPing as writing fics!

Hey, question. If you're someone who left the rp community because the drama you were in or a mistake you made but want to return but at the same time are too scared to and maybe you're busy irl and you're not sure if you would be able to balance it with your fanfic writing and you think that most people have probably either forgotten about you or don't want you back... what should you do? (I know this is a lot / a mouthful, so answer it if you're okay with doing so)

i guess another reason I'm so scared about returning is the lonely feeling that I felt before in the past returning.

If you do wanna come back I suggest putting in your rules what happened, and getting your side of things while having accountability. Also maybe tell a few friends about the account first and making it private or mutuals only, before fully diving back into the rpc and see where things go from there. Rping is a hobby, and just try running the blog occasionally in your free time! Don't put to much pressure on yourself to be here constantly. I hope this advice helps nonnie. If you're feeling lonely reach out to your friends or you can always reach out to me! Whatever you decide to do I wish you the best, please do whatever makes you feel safe and comfortable. Also as @gayroomate said make it CLEAR who you are, don't go moving blogs and swapping mun names just to hide from backlash. this has happened with too many people and its absolutely very frustrating to find out someone you've been mutuals with wasn't who they said they were. and don't be upset if people don't want to write with you. it's not your job to appease everyone and there will be those who will still be hurt by your past actions. a big part of moving on is to let certain things be. Respect people's boundaries, don't block evade, don't vauge post about people, or don't send people to ask why you were blocked.

1. Who has been your favorite muse to play?

ughhhh this is hard...im gonna cheat and go for nostalgia ok

although i think i missed the mark with her muse in some places i have a special fondness for dahlia hawthorne and her specific brand of caustic sarcasm.

i don't think i've ever come up with so many different creative insults during her runtime...also she had the neatest mix of relationships with random muses, not just in AA cast (tho i remember her tormenting at least 3 different feenies??) but beyond, notably izaya and edward cullen comes to mind.

i also really liked my run as kasen kanesada because he's a very lyrical sword (or at least works hard to cultivate that image) so i had to express that in writing and ended up having a lot of fun doing flowery replies and making up poetry and generally going big ham. (it did take a lot of mental energy though so i started losing steam later on.)

i remember he had a thread with FGO Shakespeare that was pretty nice cause we got to be nerdy and talk about eastern/western literature lolololol, then for his challenge he had to kill like 5 ppl in 24 hours so i actually got 5 volunteers to get decapitated and RP'd mini threads with them all, which was wild (and again a very, very random mix of muses including X-Files Fox Mulder)

i didn't RP OCs back then but i like them a lot now too! the lack of art is an unfortunate reality but the amount of customization you get in exchange...so powerful.

5. What is the most difficult thing about writing your current muse?

stupid guy won't just kiss klaus and marry him that would solve 99% of their problems hey klaus are u listening u need to seduce this idiot or something so his brain has nothing but u all day to keep him out of mischief hey hey klaus

also his unspoken obligation to be lawful good (in his POV) really limits his ability to "act out," so sometimes i need to find different ways to de-escalate situations before he hits moral event horizon. you know, flattery and adoration goes a long way in wrapping him around your finger, i'm surprised more people don't try (i guess they can't stand him long enough to get there lol)

7. Who was the very first muse you ever wrote?

there's a more accurate answer now: pre-tumblr, i remember RPing a Lopmon on some digimon forum once upon a time. also remember the mod that was RPing with me called me out for "slight godmodding" because i was describing how my digimon was crossing a bridge and apparently that was taking things too much into my own hands LOLOL

i've started written novels but i haven't finished any except for like, a couple of original oneshots. technically Veoc is a supporting character/love interest (spoilers: he's not the canon pairing) in a sci-fi story where i have the general plot laid out but y'know, actually writing it is... *flops down*

9. Do you write fanfiction, or have you in the past?

i definitely wrote more in the past but i've slowed down to a trickle since then. uhhhh i want to start up again, maybe with drabbles/oneshots, but i need to catch up on canon first before i try to do the characters justice

on the most recent post on fandom & personalisation of characters and backlash about hc: it's not directly fandom but it's also very hard in writing and roleplay spaces where someone has a character they've poured lots of love and time into and have essentially become extensions of themselves, because any narrative critique or any events that happen to that character are then taken as events that YOU, OOC, are doing to THEM, OOC, because they can no longer conceive of a character not being a stand-in for the person moving them around. character bleed is a bitch and I think in fandom it affects a lot of people who feel very closely linked to certain characters like you said and that they don't have the vocabulary or experience, or willingness even, to describe that that's why they feel that way.

Yeah. It's tough. I know a lot of people make OCs and RP to explore parts of themselves. I also realize that real life harm can come to people when a character's boundaries are violated in RP settings, and don't want to minimize or justify that.

But in an RP setting where ground rules have been laid out for player behavior and narrative content, where everyone has agreed to those rules and not introduced anything that wasn't negotiated beforehand, and boundaries haven't been crossed, I think it's important to not get too precious over characters.

This is something I struggled with when I was brand-new to RPGs, playing a character in ways that harmed the party, were meta-gaming-ly OOC, and overall not fun for me, the other players, or the GM.

It's not a 1:1 comparison because I don't think I projected much onto this character, but I still loved her and loved playing her. And in the end, I didn't get to for long because the campaign imploded. I'm not self-centered enough to think I was the sole cause, but I definitely didn't help the morale of the other players or GM.

Ultimately, I wish I'd gotten more into the RPing aspects even if it endangered her, and, well, played the game instead of trying to keep her encased in a bulletproof bubble at all times. Lesson learned.

I guess how this ties back to fandom is maybe we (fandom) should collectively learn to be okay with loosening the reins a bit. Consider alternate interpretations for characters and practice not get defensive when people have other headcanons. We should reflect on the flaws of characters instead of only idealizing their best attributes. Maybe we should even try headcanoning characters in ways that are different from ourselves, or get into characters who aren't "just like me", because it might actually build a shred of empathy to fixate on someone who's not like you at all. Or at least the willingness to engage with media that doesn't exclusively center and cater to the most dominant demographics in society.

Of course I think this only works if we can all agree to it. I think the current state of fandom, which seems to be tipping away from the transformative and toward the affirming / curatative, discourages exploration. It's hard not to get defensive when you're told even having headcanons is wrong, and that we have to be searching for the true meaning of a piece of media, the true motivations of a character, their true relationships, etc.

if you knew me from 2014 to roughly 2017 or 2018 (which i certainly hope you do not) then you already know this but i used to rp in this fandom. heavily. on quotev dot com. i still do rp, though not for creepypasta anymore because i lost contact with the people i used to rp with. i do however like making random accounts on q bc i made a jeff the killer account and i also plan on making a bloody painter one and also perchance maybe a nina one bc i have no sense of self control.

so, fun fact, all the creepypasta roleplays i did is what honestly made me get into writing but anyways.

i typically just roleplayed as the creepypastas since that's what everyone else did, y'know? original characters and self-inserts were looked down upon at the time because people thought it was 'cringe' and because i desperately wanted to be cool and accepted, i never really. roleplayed as my ocs. not that i had any fleshed out enough to rp as but. we'll get to that in a moment.

so, the three creepypastas that i roleplayed as exclusively, never once rping as any other because my mind latched onto them and refused to fucking let go, was homicidal liu, and both jane the killers. but mostly jane arkensaw. i love arkensaw so much it makes me look like a fool, honestly, and the way that i write her today is still heavily influenced by how i used to write her when i would roleplay. i never wanted to stop roleplaying for creepypasta because they are so near and dear to my heart but a lot of stuff was going on at the time and my friends at the time had moved on from the fandom so i just... stopped.

now, on the topic of ocs. i never had a fully fleshed out creepypasta oc. i always found it difficult to make one?? because it felt like there were a bunch of guidelines on how to properly make an oc so the oc wasn't 'cringe' or whatever and i found the whole thing to be tedious and annoying so i just never properly made an oc. i would come up with concepts, and would even draw some out every now and then but i threw all those drawings out.

i was, and still am, however, a big fucking fan of self-inserts. i only ever rped as a self-insert with one person bc they were the only person i knew that was chill with it and self-shipping and fucking hell it was the best rp i have ever done in my entire writing career nothing has ever compared to it man. the way we did it was we would control our two characters, our self-inserts, and then i would control the character they wanted to be shipped with and they would control the character i wanted to be shipped with. you... you can guess who that was i don't have to tell you, you already know. and we would make our self-inserts friends and have them interact and then they would meet the two creepypastas they were gonna get shipped with and it would slowly branch off so they'd have their own things going on so it was like two separate stories that still connected, and we would discuss what to do next in the rp in a separate message and.

god. it was one of the best moments of my life, excitedly sitting there and continuously checking my notifs, waiting to see a notification telling me they replied to our rp. i miss it, truly. both roleplaying with a friend and roleplaying as a self-insert. i never understood why self-shipping was frowned upon back then, because it was probably the most fun and cathartic thing i've ever done tbh.

thankfully, i've grown and no longer feel the need to please people so i happily and proudly ship myself with characters <3

I'm from a country that started charging for single use plastic bags years ago, which means everyone switched to reusable plastic or fabric ones instead. I was amazed and baffled when I went grocery shopping in the USA and my extremely social justicey tumblr friends started ripping off handfuls of fresh bags to pack up their shop while I, a centrist who wouldn't even dare tell them my opinion on certain matters, was putting everything into a cloth bag I bought like 7 years ago.

as an outsider who grew up using cloth bags I found it kind of sad and gross how casual everyone was about it, tbh. everyone could just decide to stop using the single use plastic if they wanted to, but they don't because it's convenient and their surroundings enable it. would phasing out plastic bags at grocery stores solve carbon emissions? no! but it was nice in my country when the ban came in and all the discarded bags getting stuck in trees and rivers disappeared overnight. small changes.

and that's how I feel about people addicted to AI. it's sad how normalised it's become in fandom when its output is so bare bones and lowers the user's writing standards (both their ability to write and their standard for what they get back.) I'm not even gonna touch on the environmental part because you obviously aren't going to be convinced there. just wanted to show, through your own example of plastic bags, that people who don't use AI/don't use single use plastic bags are on the outside looking in here and thinking it's pathetic and insane because there are infinite alternatives that are just better for everyone. (and yes you've shown that you can still write a little today, so don't come at me with that excuse. I genuinely hope you keep the writing up since it upsets you so much.)

The thing with plastic bags is- most people REUSE them. That's why the "plastic bag full of plastic bags" meme exists-my husband and I personally use them for cleaning out the litterbox, using in smaller trash cans like our bathroom or our rooms, or collecting small amounts of trash. They're good for wrapping things in if you're moving, too.

We also have fabric bags we use sometimes-the greater Pittsburgh area has a plastic bag ban (tho we rarely shop there any more since we're out of the way from there now), we like to shop at Aldi sometimes which doesn't have them, and sometimes they're just better if we have more groceries-but we still get GREAT use out of or plastic grocery bags. Many many MANY more plastic bags get reused than ones that end up just flying around or in the ocean. I guess I can get the culture shock but I promise it's not just a wasteland of plastic bags out there (ok city I grew up in kinda was sometimes but that is not the case MOST places I've been)

The thing is I still have high standards for my own writing and rping and still put a lot of effort in-I try not to be picky about what I GET BACK bc that feels Rude, but I still have standards for myself. Hell I even try to put a lot into my replies for the bots.

I can write... A bunch of friends shit posting in a group chat and two paragraphs that ended up going nowhere. That isn't exactly self ship??? I'm using the AI for self ship specifically, bc I've been really clogged in terms of imagining things and writing full shippy things.

Individuals using plastic bags or talking with an AI isn't the problem. I don't know what country you're from but I'm sure it still has factories producing smog, waterways being polluted by oil, or SOMETHING worse than a Walmart bag that someone might pick up anyway. Just like me using ai is nothing when Spotify has playlists full of ai music.

After a 2+ week long break from cyberpunk Red... my Netrunner somehow ended up in NCPD custody after just our first session 😐

To be fair, our DM did warn us... but I guess my party was too caught up in the thrill of doing something "big" 😅... I tried to persuade my friend/her Rockerboy to stop messing with Militech, but he didn't listen >_>

NCPD has 0 justification for arresting Rockerboy and his NPC bandmate cos my cover-up was flawless. Militech bribed NCPD 😐. They randomly arrested him and are trying to force a confession out of him 😐

I'm in such a bad position 🥲.Not humble bragging, but my Role level is the highest in the party now. In game, my Netrunner is considered a prodigy cos of 2 feats I pulled

Some powerful people are after her. They want me to work for them exclusively but I kept declining. It's gotten so bad that my Netrunner is using a disguise cos she doesn't feel safe

It's not that I couldn't fight back. It's just that I wasn't 100% sure I could win cos there's a high level Militech netrunner with NCPD. If I lose, I'll be outing how skilled I actually am...

My Netrunner is currently being isolated. She's in a relatively nice hotel room and was offered food

As her Rockerboy, he doesn't want to put my Netrunner in danger. But I think he accidentally made the situation worse cos frantically telling NCPD she has nothing to do with him is so sus???

I'm so nervous for the next session now cos Militech is out for blood. Like yeah, Rockerboy has been arrested and detained by NCPD many times...

But his popularity (he streams to the Net cos he refuses to "sign his soul to a corp" 🙄) is what keeps them from doing anything too drastic or flatlining him in Night City. They don't want the bad PR and possible fan riot

But now, they are trying to label him as an extremist (in my Netrunner's opinion, he is an extremist...) to justify handing him over to NUSA for trial

I'm pretty sure they'll just kill him and lie that he's sent NUSA

They basically want to tell his fans that he's a threat to public safety to turn public opinion against him

As a player, I know what's going on cos I can see my friends RPing 😅. But as my Netrunner, I know nothing... I'm isolated and heavily guarded... it's driving my Netrunner nuts cos she hates not being in control of the situation 🥲
